I just read over at Slashdot that all the “big” torrent indexing sites on the web simply closed today, most of them without any explanation.
Taking into account that the MPAA was going to sue BitTorrent tracker sites, one doesn’t need to think much about this to see what happened…
So there we go, these mo$#“fu!”#%$ have done it again. Yes, I’m very pissed about this. And I’m not even one of those guys who spends half of his day downloading illegal music or videos! I’m just someone who thinks about what all this means and I come to the conclusion that it means we are losing our freedom in every possible way. And the sad part is that we are the ones to blame (more on this below).
Don’t get me wrong, though. I agree that illegally downloading music and movies should not be done. But I don’t think about this in the same way these bastards do. For them, it’s just a business. They don’t give a shit about the people who hear their music and watch their movies, the very same people that give them their fortunes. They just want to make as much money as they can, as fast as possible. They are so stupid and ignorant that they still haven’t realized what most people on this planet already have: they could still make a lot of money if they lowered their prices, because a lot more people would buy their CDs and DVDs. At the same time, this would also reduce piracy quite a lot, because people would not feel the need to do something illegal if they could afford to have the CDs/DVDs legally!
I don’t buy a lot of music or movies. I simply refuse to pay the absurd amounts they ask for a music CD or a movie DVD. It’s just ridiculous. Those sons of bitches are filling their ass holes with money (yes, their ass holes, because their pockets are already filled!) but they still want more! If those cabrones would donate half of what they make each year to an institution that fights diseases/hunger/etc on third world countries, I would probably buy a lot more music/movies. But not this way. I don’t want to give more money to those undeserving pieces of shit than they deserve. And I bet most people don’t, either.
Then why do they do it?
This is why I say we are the ones to blame. We know those guys are lousy vampires who just want to suck all the money they can but we still feed them anyway.
And why do I say this takes away our freedom? Well, because when they closed those sites down, along with all the illegal torrents that were indexed there, they also brought down all the other legal torrents that helped many many people all over the world. Oh, and do note that the sites have nothing to do with those torrents, they just index as many torrents as they can, so people have a central spot to look for something.
Let me elaborate a bit more about this freedom thing: have you ever seen “The Matrix: Reloaded” (I think it’s on this one)? There’s a scene when Neo wakes up during the night, when they’re in Zion, and he’s walking around when the city’s president (or whatever his position is), who is also walking around, meets Neo. They’re talking about how humanity is no longer free because of the machines, etc but at a certain point, the president asks Neo if he thinks they are free from the machines. Neo says he does. The president then points to the city’s air pumps/electricity generators (or whatever they are) and asks Neo if he knows what those are. Neo answers afirmatively and the president asks Neo what would happen if they would shut them down.
What the president meant was that even though they were no longer inside the Matrix, and thus were “free”, they would still depend on the machines. This is actually a bit more elaborate but I’m not going into any more details. What I want to tell you is: if we don’t want to depend on those money-suckers, why do we keep giving them money?
Think about it. Do you want the blue pill, or the red pill?
