Today, after reinstalling Ubuntu Dapper from scratch on my laptop and losing a significant ammount of hair due to frustration, I finally managed to install Zend Platform and I’m posting the solution here in case someone else faces the same problem. At a certain point in the instalation, I was getting an error message saying “Error determining host id” and later on another one showed up saying that the license file couls not be found. »

Well, today I found out one of the likely reasons for IRC to have been dumped for MSN Messenger and other IM networks. Basically, most of the people that used IRC and now use IM are ignorant. Why? For two reasons… One of their problems seems to be that they think IRC doesn’t allow you to see which of your buddies are online. Yes, they do. I know, it’s so stupid it’s hard to believe but it’s true. »

Hoje, no final da aula de Economia, o Professor falou de patentes. Obviamente que me veio logo à cabeça a questão das patentes de software. Ainda falámos um pouco sobre o tema, mesmo depois da aula acabar e, ao vir para casa, vim a pensar nisso. Surgiu-me então uma ideia que talvez fosse uma melhoria bastante grande para a problemática das patentes, sejam elas de que tipo forem. O primeiro problema com as patentes é como determinar aquilo que se vai ou não patentear; se é de facto algo novo, se é algo que vai prejudicar a sociedade num todo em vez de ajudar, etc. »

E pronto, chegou a Portugal. A atrasadice mental tem que vir cá parar sempre, como é óbvio. Onde já se viu, fazer-se uma atrasadice mental num outro lado do mundo e não se fazer cá também?
