This is beautiful. I just wish people would unite like this all over the world, concerning other aspects that are far more important than this. Just for the record, I don’t believe every single american is stupid but I had to share this video, despite its title. What scares me is that LOTS of americans are indeed this stupid. De há uns anos para cá, cada vez mais estão na moda os ditos “produtos biológicos”. Considero esta designação interessante, dado que é habitualmente atribuída a produtos alimentares. Ora vejamos: biológico adj., relativo à Biologia. Vejamos então “biologia”: Biologia do Gr. bíos, vida + lógos, tratado s. f., ciência dos fenómenos da vida nas suas leis gerais. Portanto quando nos falam de “produtos biológicos”, estarão a falar-nos de produtos que estudam os “fenómenos da vida na suas leis gerais”? »

I went to phpmyadmin.net to consult their documentation on how to achieve something with phpMyAdmin. I saw the announcement of phpMyAdmin 2.10.02 and, entertaining my usual and rather odd curiosity, I wanted to know when 2.10.0 came out. I checked a couple of announcements below and there it was. But then something caught my attention… There is a new graphical relation manager, called Designer, available in database view. Now, I have been trying to get DBDesigner 4 or MySQL Workbench working on Ubuntu for ages (without success), so when I saw the words “graphical relation manager” I automatically drooled on the keyboard. »

Microsoft Word users now can easily import and export to the OpenDocument Format. The StarOffice 8 Conversion Technology Preview, a plug-in for Microsoft Word 2003 that allows users of Microsoft Word 2003 to read, edit and save to the OpenDocument Format (ODF) is now available. Now I can send documents in OpenDocument format to everyone and when they say “hey, I don’t know how to open this thing you sent me”, I can tell them “well, you can either use OpenOffice or get the converter”. »

Pois é, parece que temos “stalkers” na FCT. Stalkers oficiais, com direito a viatura e tudo! :P Passo a explicar: uma antiga amiga minha veio a Almada com a família passar uns dias, para reverem velhos amigos e família. Hoje saiu comigo e com outros amigos nossos e no caminho de volta a casa, passámos pela FCT e decidi mostrar-lhe a nossa faculdade. Foi um tour mega-rápido, até porque de noite não há grande coisa que se veja: entrámos, na rotunda grande descemos ao lado do DI, virámos à esquerda e passámos em frente aos galinheiros, passámos pelo edifício da nova biblioteca, subimos e passámos em frente ao departamental, voltámos à “avenida principal”, passámos em frente ao Edifício 7, da rotunda grande fomos aos campos de jogos, depois passámos por trás do 7, fomos pela estrada de terra que passa atrás do 8 e do 9 mas aí lembrei-me que dali para a frente já não havia saída e por isso voltámos para trás para nos irmos embora. »

Microsoft has retracted their recent controversial patent application. The story was first brought to light by Slashdot on Saturday. Today, Jane Prey of Microsoft announced the retraction on the SIGCSE (Special Interest in Computer Science Education) mailing list. ‘Many thanks to the members of the community that brought this to my attention — and here’s the latest. The patent application was a mistake and one that should not have happened. To fix this, Microsoft will be removing the patent application. »
